Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of the Pebble iPhone app. Using the app means you accept them.
Never eat, touch, or handle anything based on what Pebble tells you. Identification is automated and can be wrong — including confidently wrong. Many plants and fungi have lookalikes that are poisonous or fatal. Pebble is for curiosity, not for foraging, medicine, or deciding whether something is safe. If it matters, ask a qualified expert.
Who may use Pebble
You must be 13 or older to hold an account. Younger children are welcome to use the app on a parent or guardian's device, under their supervision and on their account.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
What you can expect from us
We will try to keep Pebble working and accurate, but it is provided as is. Identifications are automated suggestions, not expert determinations. Historical information about places comes from public sources and may be incomplete or out of date. We do not guarantee the app will be available without interruption.
What we expect from you
- Don't use Pebble to break the law, trespass, or disturb protected wildlife or habitats.
- Don't upload photographs you have no right to use, or images of other people who haven't agreed to it.
- Don't attempt to extract our credentials, abuse the identification service, or resell access to it.
- Don't rely on the app for anything safety-critical. See the notice above.
Your content
Your photographs, notes and finds are yours. You keep ownership of them. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you — storing them, showing them back to you, sending a scan for identification, and sharing them with a group if you choose to. If you share a find publicly using the share card, that is your decision and your responsibility.
Free use and Pebble Plus
Pebble includes a number of free scans each day. Pebble Plus is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and your Apple account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings — we cannot cancel it for you. Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies.
Third-party material
Pebble shows reference photographs and descriptions from iNaturalist, Wikipedia, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap. Those remain the property of their contributors and are used under their respective licences, with attribution shown in the app where required.
Ending things
You can stop using Pebble and delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that abuses the service or these terms; where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Pebble is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any harm arising from reliance on an identification. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and nothing here affects the statutory consumer rights you have where you live.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
